WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sen. John Ensign, who chairs the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, made clear to CNN's Wolf Blitzer Wednesday he wants embattled Idaho Sen. Larry Craig to leave the Senate - immediately.

"The senator said that by the end of September, if the guilty plea was not overturned, if he was not reestablished on his seniority on committees, that he would resign," said Ensign, a Republican representing Nevada. "Neither one of those things are going to happen. I call on Sen. Craig, if he loved the Senate and his party, he would keep his word. "

Ensign also brushed aside the notion that the Idaho Republican should be given leniency, because he only pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor.

"This wouldn't be making the national news if it was an ordinary misdemeanor," Ensign said. "He pled guilty to something that, you know lewd behavior, that's not the behavior a United States senator should be engaged in."

Ensign also dismissed the suggestion that Craig's case is similar to that of Republican Sen. David Vitter, who has admitted to committing a "serious sin" with a Washington prostitute when he served in the House.

"First of all, he never said exactly what he did," Ensign said of Vitter. "Secondly, it happened before he got into the United States Senate, and there were no laws that were broken as far as anybody knows."

Ensign also said that Craig's continued presence in the Senate will hurt Democrats and Republicans alike.

"There's too many people that paint with a broad brush that we're all corrupt, we're all amoral," he said. "And having these kinds of things happen, whether it's a Republican or Democratic senator - we certainly have had plenty of Democratic scandals in the past - we need people who are in office who will hold themselves to a little higher standard."

I so love the internet. And hypocritical slimebag GOP senators, too. Craig's presence will hurt the Senate, but Vitter's won't!? These guys should be doing standup instead of obstructing any and all significant progress on the Senate floor. Too funny!

Initial plans are being set in place for the presidential and vice presidential debates starting with the presidential debate next Friday. The McSame campaign has, once again, inserted Moosey McPalin's ball gag and have basically restructured the debate format to their liking:

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

Nonpartisan, huh?

On Wednesday, the commission unanimously rejected a proposal sought by advisers to Ms. Palin and Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential nominee, to have the moderator ask questions and the candidates answer, with no time for unfettered exchanges.

McCain advisers said they were only somewhat concerned about Ms. Palin’s debating skills compared with those of Mr. Biden, who has served six terms in the Senate, or about his chances of tripping her up. Instead, they say, they wanted Ms. Palin to have opportunities to present Mr. McCain’s positions, rather than spending time talking about her experience or playing defense.

They were only "somewhat concerned" with her debating skills?? No talking about her experience - only about Bush's ... er, McSame's positions?? This is a joke, right? Goddam funniest thing I've read since AIG and Lehman Brothers!

But actually I've mostly stopped getting pissed at Grampa Simpson and his handlers. I half expect Caribou Barbie to come up with some excuse at the last minute anyway or just pull a no-show. You know how when your kids were small and you didn't want to go somewhere you could always say that Little Stevie had a fever so you wouldn't have to go? Well, I did it and I'm betting (unofficially so far) that none of us ever sees or hears that screechy voice do a vice presidential debate. It's ridiculous, but we're watching the nice guy Dems being ignored or ridiculed by the media that has a raging hard-on for the same corrupt, secretive, invade sovereign country type politics that we've had to endure for the last 8 years!

Personally, I don't care if Moosie McPalin ever gives a freakin' interview, ever! Frankly, I hope she doesn't. Her voice is screechy enough to etch glass and all she's accomplished so far is a fair job of reading a teleprompter and a monumental job of lying. This election is not about who anybody's veep is, yet we are letting the media run with it. They're acting like she's Prez 45 for chrissakes! She ain't. She's a small time governor who has spent a fair amount of time working on Alaska's cessation from the U.S.

And as for McBush and his beloved POW experience: where is the honor in refusing an early out of the Hanoi Hilton 'cuz his daddy was an admiral?? How that decision alone is deemed as someone who has good judgment I'll never understand, but add that to his dumbass decision to either: (a) pick someone who is more unqualified to be veep than I am, or (b) allow somebody else to pick someone who is more unqualified to be veep than I am - it just boggles the mind.

We've done the Manichean president and the torture-loving veep with a man-sized safe in his office. We've done the lies and secrets. We've done the 9 and a half-TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT. Now it's time to put the correct party and its rightful leader into the White House to clean up the horrendous mess caused by McBush and the republicans.

The only way we're going to accomplish that is by electing Obama and Biden to the White House.

The only way we're going to accomplish that is by deviating from the usual Dem playbook.

I couldn't stand to watch more than a few minutes at a time of this lynch mob type RNC in St. Paul, but what I did see was nothing short of disturbing and infuriating. Between Rudy 9/11 belittling Obama for his community organizing and McPalin snarking herself silly, it was just too aggravating to watch. She apparently doesn't need no stinkin' facts as this is one of the whoppers she spewed about Obama:

But, Ms. McPalin wasn't even speaking her own words, after all. She was reading the snide, sarcastic words of Bush's speechwriters.

There was a flutter of attention when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis told a group of Post reporters and editors yesterday that his team was having to rework the vice presidential acceptance speech because the original draft, prepared before Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen, was too "masculine." While we all wondered to ourselves what might make a speech masculine or feminine, no one batted an eye at the underlying revelation: that the campaign was writing the nominee's speech before knowing who the nominee would be.

I am now convinced that after listening to as much of this crap as any self-respecting person should be expected to listen to, I am more convinced than ever that I am qualified to be running the country, too. See, I am a woman, I've actually sold things on ebay, and I'm a mom. I'm not sure how I am at reading a teleprompter, but I'm sure it'd be ok if I had a little on-the-job training.

On Monday, Tucker Bounds (are all Tuckers loony toons?) a campaign spokesman for McBush appeared on CNN for a tough interview with Campbell Brown. Brown repeatedly asked Bounds to name a foreign policy decision made by McCain's running mate Sarah Palin. It was one of the funnest things ever on CNN! Citing the Bounds interview as "over the line," McCain canceled an appearance on CNN's Larry King Live yesterday. According to the Washington Post, the McCain campaign believes that the media is "on a mission to destroy" Palin and feels "under siege." The Post writes, "The McCain camp has been unusually aggressive in pushing back against the media, and it seems to hope to persuade journalists to back off in their scrutiny of Palin." McCain even considered pulling out of a presidential debate set to be moderated by NBC anchor Tom Brokaw because of what campaign manager Steve Schmidt called NBC's "irresponsible journalism."

Blitzer reported that CNN is standing by Brown. "CNN does not believe that Campbell's interview was over the line," he said. "We are committed to fair coverage of both sides of this historic election."

There's 2 guys running for president - one guy doesn't believe in women's rights, admits to not knowing much about economics, lies when asked how many houses he owns, and wants to reinstitute the draft in order to chase bin Laden to the gates of hell. Oh yeah, and his being a POW is both an excuse and the ultimate qualifier for being president.

He can't string two sentences together without cue cards or cheating and hearing the questions in advance, he says whatever he wants to whenever he wants to and waves it off as just that ole maverick thing. He calls his wife vile names and offers to put her up in a biker babe topless contest.

He doesn't even vote for the programs to support the veterans he loves to talk about! He didn't support Jim Webb's recent GI bill even though he lied and said he had supported it. For a list as long as my arm of veteran's programs that he voted against, see here.

Despite all this crap, week after week, the polls indicate this old fool is closing the gap between himself and the best goddam candidate we've had in most of our lifetimes. How do people NOT see that electing McCain is just extending the devastating Bush presidency? How can any woman vote for the man who won't hesitate to take away her reproductive rights as quickly as he can? How can anybody anywhere vote for the man who's willing to wage war after war after war and draft our children and grandchildren to fight even more wars?

Haven't the past 8 years been horrendous enough? Haven't your paychecks shrunk enough? Haven't we been lied to enough? It's time to vote for the candidate best qualified to lead this country out of the quagmire Bush led us into. It's time to vote for the candidate that won't send our children off to war in order to prove something to himself. The candidate that won't thumb his nose at the world. It's time to vote for the guy who's not wearing the VFW or the Navy baseball cap.

Warren was surprised - had hadn't even asked the education questions and here McCain was answering them!

McCain clearly answered the two "expected" questions and then launched into his stump speech, something Warren asked Obama to avoid.

And then there's the utter incoherence of his response to the what's your definition of rich question. It's a long excerpt, but worth reading unless you actually caught him blathering this nonsense on the tube over the weekend.

I'm sick to death of too many people letting them get away with saying/writing anything they damn well please. It's bad enough elected government officials can break the law and never ever have to worry about any penalties at all, but now the media is exempt from telling the truth and can openly and brazenly lie about anybody anytime anywhere? C'mon, admit it. You only care about polls when your guy, your cause, your whatever is doing well. I know that's my stance, even though I faithfully visit Nate Silver's fivethirtyeight.com even though I have little clue what I'm actually looking at.

But, I learned something about poll data yesterday and I gotta thank KO for it. I learned what "LV" and "RV" means. It was one of those a-ha moments - like figuring out what H/T and O/T means in the blogosphere - ok, so I haven't figured out H/T yet, but I'm working on it.

Anyway, LV is Likely Voters and RV is Registered Voters. So, now I feel like I know what I'm looking at when I visit RCP and you can, too.

So, this morning there was a Gallup geek on MSNBC with one of the cable desk clerks and she was talking about yesterday's USA Today/Gallup (LV) poll showing McSurge up by 4 and the Gallup Tracking (RV) poll showing Obama up by 6. Why are those 2 Gallup polls so different the desk clerk asks and the Gallup geek said he wasn't sure but it was probably 'cuz they were run about the same time! She tries to pin him down (maybe she knows LV and RV, too), but he ain't having any of it. He keeps repeating that it's due to two polls being run at about the same time. Never once does he tell us that it's two entirely different polls and that the RV one showing Obama up by 6 is the more reliable of the two in that it involves registered voters instead of just likely voters.

This is a crazy insignificant bit of drivel, but it seems everybody else beat me to their own blogs with all of my other good post ideas for the day.

NBFD, really. I live just north of the Mexico border and work in downtown San Diego (considerably south of L.A.) in a 4-story building that was built in 1898. We felt it. Actually, I heard it first - metal supply cabinet was kinda squeaking then I felt the floor rolling. Short and sweet. Just long enough to ask my office mate if she could feel it. The 100+ year old building we work in held up quite nicely.

My 22 yr-old son was released after 2-1/2 weeks in jail - first (and better be his last) offense for trying to get rich moving weed. No cigarette smoking while he was in so he and I have decided to do the patch thang together. I'm long overdue for quitting. Wish me luck. Although he showed up with a half-smoked Black 'n Mild dangling outta his mouth. Yuck!

Let's see, Tony Snow died today. R.I.P. He was a good guy, despite being a republican. And he was YOUNGER than me!

I am too disgusted to even form more than a few coherent sentences today. The Senate has just said it's ok that our idiot president can wiretap us all he wants in secret for any reason and that all the prior years of warrantless wiretapping he did was ok, too! What a bunch of fucking idiots!

Of course, the dolts in our MSM are too busy covering Christie Brinkley's divorce trial to cover this issue which has been brewing for over a week now, but they'd probably fuck it up like they do everything else anyway.

From what I understand, Obama broke his promise and did NOT filibuster any amendment that included immunity. He did, however, vote for the Bingaman Amendment which required that the Senate wait until the Inspector General's audit of the NSA program is complete before immunizing the telecoms. The Bingaman Amendment failed.

Your best bet for an honest and realistic take on what the Senate has done to our 4th Amendment rights this morning is at Glenn Greenwald.

How many of our senators voted to invade Iraq because they didn't read the NIE or didn't read enough of it or didn't understand enough of it? Five plus years later we're more deeply entrenched in that quagmire than ever before with no end in sight and all our "I wish I hads" don't mean a thing.

How many of our senators are going to vote for the upcoming FISA bill because they haven't read it or won't read it or won't understand enough of it? This is what scares us about your stance on this corrupt piece of legislation, Senator Obama. So many of us believe that if you or your experts really read it, there is no way you'd be voting for it. Absolutely, NO WAY!

We know that you know that the president has no power to "order" any US citizen to do anything, let alone to break the law, yet there is a wall of justification for this bill which has been built with the last 8 years of Bush's corrupt monarchy that has led Americans to believe the president does have that right! You and I both know, HE DOES NOT! Never has had that right. Yet, you stand behind this bill's passage.

We don't understand why your experts and consultants haven't told you this, Senator. We don't understand how your background in Constitutional law could permit you to allow this bill to pass. How can you stand by and watch it pass knowing it's wrong?

Yes, it's true that your one vote won't turn this bad piece of legislation around, but that's not the issue. The issue is your unwillingness to stand up for what you believe in, for what you know is right and say so. The flip-flop accusers need to be damned. They're going to say it regardless. The Republicans have nothing to crow about, nothing to point at and proudly say "yes, we were responsible for that wonderful thing." All they have is the ability to try and focus Americans on the perceived shortcomings of the Democrats. That's the only ammunition they have. They have diversion, we have Barack Obama as our nominee!

Today, CNN accused you of flip-flopping on our withdrawal from IRAQ, yet the video showed the exact opposite - your very consistent stand on that issue. They're going to say whatever their corporate shills want them to say. However, what we want them to say is that despite the insurmountable odds of defeat in the Senate you stood strong and proud and voted against this badly framed, corrupt piece of legislation. That you voted to uphold our 4th Amendment rights because you believe we can maintain national security without compromising even one word of our Constitutional rights!

To put it a different way, Glenn Greenwald wrote today:

admits is lawbreaking by both the Government and telecoms will never be
addressed or resolved by a court of law. It shields the lawbreakers from
